Typical scenario

An air conditioner leaks only after prolonged operation

If an indoor air-conditioning unit starts dripping after several hours of cooling, either equipment failure or installation may be suspected. A short trial may reveal nothing, while part of the drain is concealed and its actual route is unknown.

What needs to be clarified

Compare equipment operation and condensate drainage, establish when water appears, and examine technical explanations without assigning the cause in advance.

Materials to prepare

  • Unit model, manual and installation record
  • Leak video showing operating duration and settings
  • Access to the unit, drain and accessible pipework

What to compare

Record the unit position and the condition of the pan, connections, insulation and accessible drain. Under reproducible conditions, observe condensate formation and discharge; check drainage continuity and geometry against the model's manual. Document concealed sections, maintenance and changes since the reported incident.

Possible outcome of the analysis

A water-path diagram and assessment of supported causes, or further checks, may distinguish equipment defects, installation features and restrictions on access.

Limits of the conclusions

A dry unit during a short test does not exclude intermittent leakage. Concealed drainage and unreproduced operating conditions may prevent a final explanation.
